Getting to La Romana from Punta Cana
La Romana sits west of Punta Cana on the south-east coast, connected by the Autovía del Coral. The drive takes about an hour and ten minutes from Punta Cana International Airport, and a little longer from the Bávaro hotels.
The town itself is a working Dominican city built around the old sugar industry, but most visitors come for what surrounds it: Casa de Campo, the Chavón river canyon, the marina and the boats that leave for Catalina Island.
La Romana has its own airport (LRM) right beside Casa de Campo, but it handles far fewer routes than Punta Cana. Many travelers fly into PUJ for the schedule and the fare, and cover the last 70 minutes by road.
